MTNL shares climb 2% on 3G launch

MUMBAI: MTNL shares edged higher Thursday as the state-run telecom firm debuts its 3G, or third generation,
phone services.

MTNL plans to offer the high-speed data mobile phone
service free to its high-spending mobile customers initially for a period of two months on a trial basis, according to media reports. The service is expected to be launched by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, during the Indian Telecom Summit in New Delhi.
