What is the Industrial IoT?

Industrial Internet of Things refers to industrial devices – anything from the machines installed in a factory to engines deployed inside an aircraft and healthcare tools that contain sensors and are connected to wireless networks. Industrial IoT devices gather and share the data with other connected devices. It is the network of smart devices connected to form systems that can track, gather, exchange and analyze data.

 
What is the difference between IoT and IIoT?

Both the Internet of Things and Industrial Internet of Things have the common character of intelligent and connected devices. They are different from each other in terms of their usages.

IoT is mainly used for consumer usage purposes; on the other hand, IIoT is used for industrial usage; for example, manufacturing, production, supply chain management, etc.

IIoT uses more sensitive sensors, including advanced analytics and controls, to enable automated functionalities. However, IoT uses simple sensors to interact with low-risk impact applications. Breakdowns in IoT do not create emergencies, whereas failures in IIoT can be life-threatening. Therefore, IIoT devices need to developed more carefully and precisely.
